Dr. Cornelis T. van der Lugt is Senior Research Fellow with the Centre for Corporate Governance at Stellenbosch University Business School, Cape Town, South Africa, and Senior Associate at BSD Consulting, Zurich, Switzerland. He leads content development for <IR> training by the BSD Group, which in 2016 became the first Global Training Partner of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).
Passionate about linking corporate finance and sustainability accounting, he has presented trainings on use of the IIRC <IR> Framework in Zurich, Geneva, Paris and Berlin with diverse participants including Bayer, Coca-Cola, EnBW, Hewlett-Packard, LafargeHolcim, Migros, Nestle and Groupe Publicis. He also represents his business school in the IIRC Academic Network and will be presenting the first IIRC-approved, advanced <IR> trainings in South Africa, Johannesburg and Cape Town this May.
Cornis has over 20 years of experience working at international level in the field of sustainability standards. He served on the GRI’s Boundaries (2004), Reporting as Process (2005) and Materiality (2009) expert working groups. His work included developing guidance for managers and benchmarking reports on good practices with partners such as SustainAbility, Standard & Poors, KPMG, World Resources Institute and AccountAbility.
In 2006 he co-founded the www.carrotsandsticks.net series by KPMG, UNEP, CCGA and GRI on mandatory and voluntary instruments for corporate sustainability disclosures world-wide. In 2015 he co-founded the online platform www.materialitytracker.net, an international hub on materiality trends and related standards. He holds a PhD from Stellenbosch University (Cape Town) and Masters in Business Administration from the Haute Ecole de Commerce (HEC, Paris).
