Our stakeholder research created a wealth of insights to underpin NRMA’s sustainability decisions and investments. The project has opened up strategic opportunities and has given the team direction and a body of evidence to take into strategic group-level discussions.
The Client Challenge
Insurance Australia Group (IAG) is the parent company of several iconic insurance brands including NRMA Insurance, CGU, SGIO and SGIC. The publicly listed group underwrites over $11 billion of premiums per annum and has operations in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The company has a significant community investment portfolio, which includes a community grants program, long- standing partnerships with community organisations such as the State Emergency Service and employee initiatives such as volunteering and matched giving.
IAG wanted to review its community investment portfolio to understand whether these were delivering value to the business and its wider stakeholders.
First, we benchmarked best practices in community investment programs for leading insurance companies. Then we reviewed the Community Grants program. Extensive stakeholder engagement shone a light on stakeholder views of IAG’s community and sustainability impacts and activities. Stakeholders consulted included staff, customers, community partners, grants recipients and thought leaders.
